How long should a blog be?

in Miscellaneous

I have a collection of blogs slipping into my inbox regularly. I got email notifications for them so I wouldn’t miss them – but then I don’t read them.

But then there is one I do read regularly. Why? Well, it’s nearly always entertaining, but more than that, I know it will be short. A two minute read.

I can do that. Maybe I can also do a two minute write..

Oh dear, I am guilty of lengthy blogs…. Always get bogged down in research and want to tell ALL. Suppose reflection of my own mad craze to find out all the facts. Not a two minuter, though thankfully there is the ‘wordless weds’ which must be my shortest posts to date!

I just find I miss out on longer ones – think ‘blimey, haven’t got long enough just now’, save it and ….Shame. But as Helen says people are different and doing for different reasons. And I’m just remembering that the comments can extend a piece enormously…! (if we’re lucky)

I know my blog posts meander but I write for me. I know others write to get people’s attention and open a dialogue. I find my favourite blogs change on a regular basis dependent on my mood or what is interesting me at the time. I dont think there is one blog I read religiously.

If I was you I would adopt the approach of writing what you want, how ever long you want it to be and when you want.

I was not intending to reproach anyone at all. I feel sorry about the number of good blogs out there that I so often miss – while at the same time thinking I’m spending too much time online. Riches, really…our world is so full.

Oh I didnt think you were criticising anyone I was just trying to say that I think different people write for different reasons and different audiences.

That’s true. Blogging, like twitter, serves a multitude of functions, sometimes all at once..

When you find the secret of that two-minute write, please pass it along. Congratulations on your new Veddw venue!
